Building an Equitable & Differentiated Training System

Turn pre-service training research into everyday practice.

BEDTS operationalizes the Vanderbilt capstone on workforce development in safety-sensitive industries — assessing learner readiness, differentiating training, and using data to support every trainee through onboarding. Each trainee is a rider on a route; the goal is to get everyone to the destination, well-prepared.

Pre-assess readiness

A 7-domain readiness survey, reading-comprehension measure, and transportation-experience inventory — a structured profile before Day 1.

Differentiate the pathway

Foundation, Standard, and Accelerated pathways recommended from readiness and prior experience — support, never a screen-out.

Assess authentically

Center hands-on demonstration of learning over written tests — the way trainees actually prove competence.

Carry readiness across phases

Shared instructor notes create a feedback loop between classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction.

Use data to improve

Cohort dashboards surface the most variable, safety-critical domains — starting with emotional regulation.
